Behind the castles, behind the manicured lawns, behind the beauty of luxury lies reality. Surface beauty is skin deep, but Egeskov Castle in Denmark has nothing to hide. It begs you to walk inside of it’s perfectly squared off shrubs to see the beauty within. This type of foliage I previously thought was the product of a highly trained leaf trimmer; removing stray branches and squaring off corners. While this task is vital to the maintenance, the manipulation of the branches of the shrub throughout its growth is by far the art of this castle. Paths and cut-throughs hide themselves in the massive shrubbery in the gardens. You move space to space from green to branch to green again.
